About me

Doctor in Medicine and Surgery from the Autonomous University of Barcelona and specialist in Neurology. He has an extensive experience of more than 20 years dedicated to the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases with special emphasis on Parkinson's disease and other movement disorders, an area in which he is internationally recognized.

Dr. Kulisevsky is a world renowned neurologist who has made great contributions to the study and treatment of diseases such as Parkinson's, being a pioneer in Spain in therapy based on Deep Brain Stimulation.

He is Professor of Neurology at the Faculty of Medicine at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, Vice-Dean of Postgraduate Studies at the same, Research Professor at the Open University of Catalonia, Director of the Movement Disorders Unit at the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau and Director of the research group on Parkinson's disease and other movement disorders at the Neurology Service of the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau. He is also Head of the Neurology Service at the Hospital Universitario Dexeus and of the Neurocognitive Diagnosis and Rehabilitation Center of the Neurology University Institute.

His clinical and research activity is mainly focused on Parkinson's disease and other movement disorders. In this sense, his scientific career has focused on cognitive and behavioral disorders associated with diseases of the basal ganglia and the impact of pharmacological treatment. As a result of this work, he has published more than 200 scientific articles in specialized journals and numerous book chapters and medical guides.

At the teaching level, he has published numerous clinical guidelines and is the organizer of various courses, conferences and rotations aimed at the training of medical staff at national and international level. He has also supervised more than 15 doctoral theses.

He has been a member of the expert commission for the development of cognitive assessment instruments in Parkinson's disease and for the definition of the diagnostic criteria for mild cognitive impairment in this disease by the International Movement Disorders Society.

He is currently coordinator in Catalonia and Spain of the European Network for the Study of Huntington's Disease and the Enroll-HD study. He is a member of the evaluation commissions of research projects of the Carlos III Institute of Health, the Ministry of Health of the Government of Andalusia and the University Research Management Agency (AGAUR). He is also a reviewer for the Flanders Research Foundation (FWO).

He has been awarded the research prize of the Spanish Society of Neurology, has been principal investigator of a large number of research projects funded by public agents such as the TV3 Marathon and the Carlos III Institute of Health and private entities. He is also principal investigator of the Network Center for the Study of Neurodegenerative Diseases (CIBERNED) of the Instituto de Salud Carlos III.
